Pair of Monumental Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte Rare 7-Light Glass Sconces, 1950s

A rare pair of seven-light wall sconces designed by Pietro Chiesa for Fontana Arte in the 1950s.

Each sconce is defined by a monumental shield-shaped backplate in thick "Nilo" glass, characterized by a subtle blue-green tone. The glass introduces a soft chromatic presence, with polished edges that catch and diffuse light, creating a delicate halo against the wall.

The backplates function as both structure and reflective surface, enhancing depth through their clarity and thickness. In front of this translucent field, a brass framework unfolds into seven scrolling arms, establishing a vertical rhythm.

The brass structure retains its original patina, with warm tonal variations that contrast with the cool glass and the white enameled diffusers. Each light point is crowned by a stylized flower element in enameled metal, with petal-shaped edges forming open corolla forms.

The floral diffusers filter the light softly, producing a layered effect of reflections and shadows across the glass surface. The composition balances decorative reference with architectural clarity, resolving into a sculptural vertical arrangement.

The sconces have been professionally rewired for modern use.
