Pair of Archimede Seguso "Bullicante" Murano Glass Wall Sconces, 1940s

An elegant pair of wall sconces produced by Seguso Vetri d'Arte in the 1940s, during the period in which Archimede Seguso played a leading artistic role within the historic Murano furnace. The design reflects the refined material experimentation and sculptural sensibility that defined Venetian glass production of the era.

Each sconce features a beautifully flared shade in thick clear Murano glass, worked in the bullicante technique - a traditional method creating controlled air bubbles suspended within the glass mass. Vertical ribbing combined with evenly distributed bubbles generates a vibrant optical texture, enhancing light diffusion and producing a warm, atmospheric glow when illuminated. The softly scalloped rim and fluid silhouette subtly evoke floral forms, a recurring theme in mid-century Seguso production.

The glass elements rest on solid brass wall mounts with a rich, naturally aged patina. The restrained geometry of the mounts provides a measured counterpoint to the expressive quality of the blown glass. The sconces have been professionally updated with new lamp holders and internal wiring to comply with modern electrical standards, while preserving the original brass finish.
