Pair of Glass and Brass Wall Lights by Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors, 1970s

A sculptural pair of wall lights designed by Carl Fagerlund for Orrefors in the 1970s. The composition reflects Fagerlund's mastery of textured glass and atmospheric illumination, where material depth becomes the defining visual element.

Each sconce features a thick, vertically ribbed glass shade with a deeply textured, organic surface. Unlike the more commonly encountered clear examples, the reverse of the glass is enriched with applied gold leaf, dramatically enhancing the warmth and dimensionality of the light. When illuminated, the glass glows with a rich intensity, casting softly diffused reflections and subtle shadows across the wall.

The shades are secured to the backplates with characteristic star-shaped brass pins - both functional and decorative - emblematic of Fagerlund's refined attention to detail. The brass mounts display a naturally aged patina that contrasts elegantly with the luminous, almost molten quality of the glass. One sconce retains its original Orrefors label, a rare and desirable detail.
