Very Rare Walnut Working Table/Desk by Ignazio Gardella, Milano - Italy, 1950

An exceptionally rare, museum-level desk designed by Ignazio Gardella in Milan, circa 1950. This piece embodies a refined synthesis of architectural rigor, material research, and functional innovation, translated into furniture at the highest level.

Crafted in solid walnut, the desk is defined by sculptural trestle legs, subtly splayed and connected by a central stretcher. The structure supports a thick glass top, allowing full visibility of the underlying construction - a deliberate architectural gesture that reveals rather than conceals its functional logic.

A suspended drawer unit is integrated beneath the glass surface. The drawers run on finely engineered brass rails, an advanced technical solution for the period. Brass elements, including distinctive hexagonal structural joints, are both functional and expressive, highlighting Gardella's precision and attention to detail.

The construction reflects a modular and rational approach characteristic of Gardella's architectural practice, placing this work firmly within the canon of post-war Italian modernism.
