There is satisfying weight to this coffee table, whose broad timber top seems to hover above its recessed plinth while exposed joinery gives the substantial silhouette a finer, more exacting edge. Care

• Use placemats and trivets to protect the timber from spills and heat, wipe spills straight away with a damp cloth, and re-tighten the fasteners every six months. Keep the table out of prolonged harsh sunlight to prevent the finish discoloring, and in a stable environment to minimize timber movement, joint cracks and lacquer damage.
