Plush upholstery perched on a spare wood base gives this compact Danish modern upholstered stool a pleasing tension between softness and restraint, making it equally useful beside an armchair or pulled forward as an extra seat. Because its size is modest, it can migrate naturally through the room, serving as a footrest during the evening, occasional seating when guests arrive, or a small companion to a lounge chair. Tucked beneath a console or drawn beside a favorite chair, it contributes softness exactly where it is useful and disappears from the plan just as easily when the room needs more space. First produced in Denmark in the 1960s by cabinetmaker Soren Nielsen, the design still feels remarkably current.
