Part furniture, part manifesto, this pre-war Dutch modernist chair is all attitude. Its black-painted frame is frankly bolted together, and its leather seat and soaring back have aged to a dry, sculptural patina you simply can't fake. Expert-dated to before the war and steeped in the experimental spirit of Rietveld and Uiterwaal, it's a rare piece of avant-garde history for the collector who prefers a conversation piece to a comfy one. Place it where it can be admired, ideally by envious guests.
