Broad curved arms and a deeply upholstered back give this compact Nordic two-seat sofa the enveloping comfort of a favorite reading chair expanded just enough for company. The gently bowed back gathers the sitter inward, while subtle buttoning breaks the generous upholstery into a softly tailored surface that keeps the piece from feeling overly plush. Set beside a low table, it creates a close, companionable seating area where conversation naturally feels more relaxed and the furniture itself seems to draw people nearer. Its smaller scale makes it an excellent anchor for apartments, bedrooms or living rooms where two people should be able to settle in comfortably without surrendering the rest of the floor plan. First produced by Gunnar Haimi in Finland during the 1940s, the design captures the warmer, more humane direction Nordic furniture took after the war.
A Design by Dagmar.
