An important pair of wingback armchairs designed by Enrico Pellegrini in 1945.
Documented in Furniture by Turin Architects and Designers 1945 - 1965 by Davide Alaimo, the model appears in a period photograph from the Pellegrini Archive depicting the Mazzonis residence, circa 1945. The attribution places these armchairs within the refined post-war design culture of Turin, where architecture, craftsmanship, and decorative arts converged into a distinctive modern language.
The chairs are defined by an enveloping silhouette, with high winged backrests, generous upholstered volumes, and balanced proportions. Their most distinctive feature is the sculptural solid wood arm structure, which extends outward in a fluid continuous line before curving gently forward, creating a strong sense of movement and visual lightness.
The contrast between the tailored upholstery and the carved wooden elements establishes a dialogue between comfort and architectural precision. Shaped side wings, button detailing, and tapered legs further reinforce the elegance of the design.
The chairs have been recently reupholstered in a dark green semi-velvet fabric, chosen for its soft texture and subtle sheen. The upholstery enhances the sculptural quality of the forms while remaining faithful to the character of the original design.
The wooden armrests and legs retain their warm tone and natural patina, reflecting the age and authenticity of the pieces.
A rare and documented pair that embodies the sophistication of early post-war Italian design.
