Pair of Wall Sconces "Torcello" Attributed to Carlo Scarpa for Venini, 1940s

An elegant and sculptural pair of Venetian wall lights featuring finely worked torcello glass shades on patinated brass supports. The flared, trumpet-shaped diffusers in clear glass are enriched by dense diagonal incisions, creating a subtle optical vibration that refracts and softens the light. When illuminated, the glass emits a warm, diffused glow; when unlit, it highlights the precision of its linear decoration.

The softly flared conical form with gently everted rim reflects the refined design language of 1940s Venetian glassmaking. The combination of textured transparency and balanced geometry speaks to the high level of craftsmanship typical of Murano production of the period.

Each shade is supported by a horizontal brass arm extending from a circular backplate. A delicate floral-shaped brass collar (ghiera a fiore) elegantly mediates the junction between glass and metal. The brass retains a rich original patina, contributing warmth and authenticity.
